Lisa Madden is a visual artist who lives and works in the Chicagoland area. She is currently a 2022 MFA candidate in the Painting and Drawing Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Lisa earned her BFA in the spring of 2020 also from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her art practice utilizes the processes of collage and painting to meditatively create built environments from collections of fragmented paper such as personal drawings, printed media, and photography. The collage facilitates avenues of intuitive compositional construction, layering and erasure of the collected image. The collage is also used as a template which is then transferred onto canvas to further push meaning and composition into unidentifiable abstractions, where coupled with the investigation of formal painting concerns moves toward the communication of a poetic visual language.
